Should I Upgrade to a Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Network when I am currently using Wi-Fi 5/6 wireless devices?

Absolutely, the primary purpose of having a Wi-Fi 7 Mesh is improving speeds/reducing latency everywhere in the house.

The overall performance of your Deco network across your home will increase dramatically due to the powerful Wi-Fi 7 backhaul connections between satellite nodes.

Moreover, you don’t have to worry about compatibility with older devices, Wi-Fi 7's Decos support backward compatibility with Wi-Fi 4/5/6/6E clients.

Can the two ports of the Combo Port (RJ45 and SFP+)  be used at the same time?

No, the two combo ports cannot work at the same time. When one of the ports is being used for data transfer, the other port will become inactive and will not be able to transmit or receive data.

I have a broadband subscription of over 1Gbps, why is the speed of my PC still lower than 1Gbps even when I am using the 10G port on the Deco?

There are a few things that you may check to troubleshoot and identify the cause of your slowed connection:

1. First, make sure the Ethernet Adapter of your PC supports over 1Gbps.

2. Confirm that you are receiving 1Gbps+ from Your ISP by connecting your PC directly to the modem,

3. Check the physical link speed between the Deco and your PC:

4. We also recommend using a CAT6 or above Ethernet cable to achieve speeds over a gigabit.

5. Check your Quality of Service (QoS) for any settings or high-priority devices.

Can I still use my older Deco units after getting a Wi-Fi 7 Deco?

Yes, all decos are designed to work together. You may add a Wi-Fi 7 deco to an existing network by setting the Wi-Fi 7 deco as the main node for your network. This will allow your most powerful node to manage your network while providing high-speed backhauls to satellites and devices.

Please note that the MLO network is only available on the BE95 because other Wi-Fi 6/6E models don’t have MLO capability. Some other features such as MLO, or Signal/ Band / Node Preference require compatible firmware for models across your entire network.

Can my older wireless devices connect to the MLO network?

Yes, older clients would still be able to connect to the MLO network as long as it supports 5GHz and WPA3 encryption. However, the MLO feature will not take effect if the client does not support it. To use MLO, both the Router and the Client should have Wi-Fi 7 capability. To keep the MLO network congestion to a minimum, we recommend only connecting MLO clients to MLO-designated networks.

Please check for Wi-Fi 7 availability of your phone or laptop with your manufacturer. Some devices have already been released with Wi-Fi capabilities but are waiting on drivers and firmware from the device manufacturer to enable the functionality.

How does the IoT Network work? Should I use it?

It is an individual network apart from the main/guest network, designed for only connecting IoT devices. It has 2.4G/5G capability; 6GHz is not available on IoT networks because most IoT devices don’t support 6GHz wireless yet.

When configuring your network, you may select what bands and what security method you would like to be used for your IoT network, allowing for even greater compatibility and security for smart devices. In addition, devices connected to the IoT network have the option to be isolated from the main network for security and easy management purposes.

Apart from the latest Wi-Fi 7 models, other Deco models are set to receive the feature via future firmware updates.

How to use the USB Sharing feature?

The USB Port on the Deco BE95 supports USB 3.0 Speed, officially “USB 3.2 Gen1”. The read/write speed of USB sharing will mostly depend on the USB device itself and the network speed between your share client/server and the connected deco unit.

For the Deco BE95, the supported sharing types are “Samba” and “FTP”, with basic authentication.

Time Machine Backup is supported as well.
