How to make my Tapo devices work with IFTTT
IFTTT, short for IF This Then That, is a free web service that makes your home smarter by creating useful connections between devices, apps, services, and websites.
These connections, called Applets, work using a Trigger and an Action: If something happens, then do something else.
In Tapo devices, Smart Plugs, Smart Switches, Smart Bulbs, and more are IFTTT-supported.
To use IFTTT Service, you need:
- Install the IFTTT app on your phone and create a free IFTTT account.
Download the IFTTT app in APP Store or Google Play and register an IFTTT account
- A Tapo device and a TP-Link Tapo account. No Tapo Account?
In this FAQ, we use L510 smart bulb and P100 smart plug as an example to achieve “If the smart bulb turns on (Trigger), then turn off living room lamp connected to the smart plug (Action).”
Note: You can also visit IFTTT official website to register an IFTT account and follow similar steps to connect your device to the IFTTT. In this FAQ we take the App method for example.
Step1. Create a Trigger
- Open the IFTTT app and tap "Create" to add a new Applet.
- Tap on "Add" of “If This” to create a Trigger. In the searching bar, put in the brand of your smart bulb. Here we select “TP-Link Tapo” and tap on “Connect” to continue.
- Connect Your Tapo Account.
A message will pop up. Tap “Continue” and Log in with your TP-Link ID, then tap "Authorize" to link your Tapo account.
- Choose a trigger. Here we choose “Turn On Trigger”. Select your device (L510 smart bulb) and tap on “Create trigger”. Now we completed the Trigger setup process.
Step2. Create an Action
- Tap on "Add" of “Then That” to create an action. In the searching bar, put in the brand of your smart plug. Here we select “TP-Link Tapo”.
- Choose an Action.
Here we select “Turn Off” as Action since we want to turn off the plug-connected lamp. Select your Tapo P100 plug and tap on “Create action”.
- Review and Finish
Tap on "Continue" then tap on “Finish” to complete the whole setup.
Step 3. The new Applet will show up on the IFTTT app. At this moment, if the L510 smart bulb turns on, then the living room lamp (connected to P100 smart plug) will turn off afterwards.
