Ready for the New WiFi 7? TP-Link is Paving the Way

By TP-Link Editorial Group

With several organizations announcing their plans for WiFi 7, momentum is already gathering for its release. We at TP-Link are ready to usher in a whole new wireless revolution.

It’s 2022, the same year that marked our 11th time being the No. 1 network device provider. We understand the importance of the always-connected lifestyle and are excited to lead you towards upgrading your home network and smart lifestyle.

WiFi 7: A Digital Revolution

Reviewing the development of the 802.11 protocol, the emergence of 802.11ac has given a solution to meet the needs of growing data consumption. Whether it’s online shopping, communication, office work, or games, WiFi has become an indispensable part of everybody's life.

Following WiFi 5’s solution to exploding network demand, WiFi 6E further improved efficiency by opening up a brand new 6 GHz band with seven 160 MHz channels, taking wireless networking to a new level. But WiFi technology innovation hasn’t stopped there.

To adapt to the new era of intensive streaming, more sophisticated wireless networks, and a large number of data transmission applications, WiFi 7 with the mission of “Extremely High Throughput” has emerged.

The Need for WiFi 7

Demand for wireless networks, from businesses to homes, is hitting new peaks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Broadcom, nearly 60% of US households upgraded their WiFi last year.

Home offices have gradually become the norm. These require higher requirements for remote office networking. When it comes to entertainment, studies have pointed out how more and more people are using VR/AR devices to experience games in an immersive way. Smart home upgrades likewise require a stable wireless local area network that can connect a large number of high-speed devices. All of these needs have contributed to the evolution of WiFi.

With all of this technological innovation, a newer and more comprehensive WiFi standard is required. The emergence of 10G Ethernet pushes home broadband to higher levels. The new 6 GHz band also needs more use. WiFi 7’s mission is to bring these technologies to life.

What is WiFi 7?

TP-Link will produce all types of WiFi 7-equipped wired or wireless network access devices, whether it’s a router (Archer BE850) or a Mesh system (Deco BE65). In the long term, we will also enrich more product lines.

WiFi 7 works with true Tri-band (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz) and introduces the following new technologies to achieve higher throughput and network performance:

l 320 MHz: Doubled Width

WiFi 7 maximizes channel bandwidth, increasing 160 MHz (WiFi 6/6E) to 320 MHz. This leads to delivering peak rates of over 40 Gbps, a 4× increase over WiFi 6E.

Enhanced Modulation

WiFi 7 uses 4096-QAM, which is 20% faster compared with 802.11ax’s 1024-QAM. With 4K-QAM, each symbol carries 12 bits of data rather than 10 bits.

Multi-RU (Puncturing)

Preamble Puncturing technology blocks interfering channels to free up the rest of the bandwidth for use. This means more resource units (RU) can be created by puncturing out already occupied or blocked channels.

Multi-Link Operation (MLO)

MLO enables link aggregation at the MAC layer. It can pick the less congested channel for your wireless data and establish multiple wireless data links between an STA and AP to reduce network congestion. This leads to higher throughput, lower latency, and higher reliability.

The Benefits of WiFi 7

TP-Link is at the forefront of WiFi 7, unlocking the potential of what’s possible with this cutting-edge technology.

With WiFi 7, you can stream all kinds of movies and 4K/8K videos and transmit any data package you need, all without much waiting. If you are a gamer, WiFi 7 will bring you a truly immersive experience like never before. With enhancements to speed, coupled with refined AR/VR, experience the integration of the virtual and real worlds.

Besides entertainment, telecommuting, massive video conferencing, and data cloud services will also flourish with WiFi 7. Powerful internet signals will roll out everywhere you go, connecting everything.

Now is only TP-Link’s first steps toward WiFi 7, the real key lies in the complete construction of a comprehensive WiFi 7 ecosystem. What will the future look like? Keep your eyes open and wait for TP-link to connect you to the next generation of connectivity.
