Replace your existing doorbell with a Tapo doorbell and answer your door from anywhere with your phone. However, not all doorbell systems are compatible with the Tapo doorbell. Your existing doorbell button must be a stand-alone momentary push button. Integrated intercoms, gate systems, and entry controls are likely incompatible.

The voltage and power should fall within the required range below. If not, you can contact a professional to upgrade your doorbell system.

Voltage

8-24V AC

Power

10VA minimum

Frequency

50~60Hz

How to check the voltage?

Use the following methods to help you check the voltage:

1. Find the voltage of your doorbell’s transformer

Typically, the transformers’ nameplate shows the voltage ratings. It is usually attached to the body of the transformer. If the voltage ratings are within the below range, then your doorbell system is compatible with Tapo Doorbell.

If you can’t find the transformer, check the following places:

  • Inside your doorbell chime box
  • Near your breaker or fuse box
  • In the basement or crawl space under your home

2. Measure the voltage with a multimeter

Use a multimeter with metal probes for accurate measuring.

Warning: Take care of electric shock. If you are uncomfortable with basic wiring, please consult an electrician.

Following steps below to check the voltage of your doorbell:

  1. Remove your current doorbell.
  2. Disconnect the wires.
  3. Measure the voltage using the multimeter.

3. Consult a local professional or electrician

Let a professional help you measure the voltage, upgrade your doorbell system if it’s not compatible with Tapo Doorbell, or install the Tapo Doorbell for you.
